don’t you know this is our M.O.
peaceful protestors
You’re agitators and rioters
civilians, don’t you know we are your benefactors
we take from the world just to give to you
so take your resistance from what’s rightfully ours
just be happy we are leaving you anything

unleash the attack dogs
bring out the sonic cannons
You say we’re losing signs of life
but the top of the food chain all feel fine
drinking their oil and wine
sinking ideals of paradise
as we sell the future for more moneyed mines
bloody diamonds, blackened lungs
stung by the serpent’s bite
soothed by it’s tongue
a false sense of security
smooth insincerity
and I am but a needless piece in the machine
I too am guilty
broken and envious

when the rocks hit the bow of our arrogance
the intake of water will sink this ship
it’s sooner than we think
when the hull has a hole big enough, we sink
say goodbye to everyone
say goodbye to all of this

doomed
but the good news is that
there will be no more suffering
once we reach the ending
we’ll wade among the stones
and wait for some tension
just to feel anything at all
so take it all, stock pile
but when it’s done you’ll leave with nothing
you’ll circle back around
by yourself

and I’ll just say I had a good time
a good time, though I’m lying
we set the sails and headed off
to untouched shores except they weren’t
we were invaders
to a population of natives
but we called them savages
we took their land and raped their kin
it turns out we’re all savages in the end
now we build our oil pipelines and frack the mountains
like stubborn addicts and mindless worker ants
as we kill everything
all the way declaring victory
are you proud of yourselves?
you’re suffocating your kids
